What better to do on a Sunday than read newspapers and books? The local rag had a series of headings to quaint drawings:
- In British Columbia, we mine coal.
- Which we sell to the Chinese.
- Who burn it in antiquated power plants that spew out harmful emissions.
- Which eventually drift over British Columbia
- “But hey we have energy-efficient light bulbs in the legislature.”
The history of this coal mining is well described in Roadside Geology of Southern British Columbia and so I shall proceed to read it, and recommend it and its companion volumes on the roadside geology of most of the western states to anyone who travels and finds geology fascinating.
