CoalWhat better to do on a Sunday than read newspapers and books? The local rag had a series of headings to quaint drawings:

  1. In British Columbia, we mine coal.
  2. Which we sell to the Chinese.
  3. Who burn it in antiquated power plants that spew out harmful emissions.
  4. Which eventually drift over British Columbia
  5. “But hey we have energy-efficient light bulbs in the legislature.”

The history of this coal mining is well described in Roadside Geology of Southern British Columbia and so I shall proceed to read it, and recommend it and its companion volumes on the roadside geology of most of the western states to anyone who travels and finds geology fascinating.
