Some people collect stamps, some baseball cards, some back issues of delightful magazines. All this requires space and time. I collect mining project case histories. This requires no space and little time. Read it, enjoy it, admire or disparage its aesthetics and fact presentation, and then pass on to something else. Here are some places where you can indulge a passion for mining-related case histories.

  • AusMining Pty Lty has eleven brief case histories of mines in Australia on which they have worked. Most are accompanied by a primitive but effective figure that shows the layout of the mine and it workings.
  • InfoMine (my employer) has over seventy Mine Sites that describe everything from the region of the mine, to the economy of the surrounding area, to the specifics of the mine itself—a magnificent collection.
  • Another smart collection is in The Thyssen Drift 2005.  Again a collection of stories of the use of their equipment staff and methods at mines.
  • An extraordinary colleciton of short project case histories is that compiled by Creamer Media who are based in Johannesburg.  I particularly cherish the Mineral Snads Projects and the Platinum projects having been involved with both at one time or another.
  • Then there is the Center for Mine Land Redevelopment Case History site.   Over twenty in all.
  • Proudfoot Consulting gives about 18 cases from Utah to Peru.
  • Dr. Shamsher Prakash of the Unversity of Missouri-Rolla has for years organized conferences on case histories in geotechnical engineering. I wonder why nobody has done the same for mining.
  • Finally ECO Grouting Specialists brings you more short case histories on grouting.
  • If you have more mining-related case histories that are easily accessible via the internet please add them in the commnets below and let us share them with you. Collecters all unite.
